In my first post, I talked about losing two factions after switching Katherinne from Human to Blood Elf (and losing the “e” on her name). One of the factions that I needed to grind was Tranquillien which turned out not to be a grind at all.
According to Wowhead, there are 71 quests in Ghostlands, not all are available to all classes and and all horde races. You need 50 to receive the new Ghostlands achievement. Most of the quests give from 1100 rep to 3300 rep so I was able to achieve exalted after about two or three questing sessions. (There be spoilers below, beware)
The bonus (for my fellow alliance now ex-comrades) is that if you are Blood Elf, you get to trigger the event that leads to Lady Sylvanas Windrunner singing the “Lament of the Highbourne”. The below is the official Blizzard cinamatic and has more than what you see at the end of the quest. I’m sure everyone has heard it by now so here is another treat. It’s extremely beautiful and moving!
To get the quest, there are several quests that require your killing undead (Wowhead says ghosts or acolytes) in the Dead Scar, while doing this you will receive a necklace drop that begins the quest The Lady’s Necklace. This will eventually lead you to the quest Journey to Undercity where you will need to find Lady Sylvanas. Upon giving her the necklace, she starts to sing.
For those who didn’t grow up Horde, like me, the story behind the necklace is that it was once a gift from Sylvanas’ sister Alleria Windrunner. The Wowpedia story gives a good account. The short version is that before she went to Outland to battle, she melt down a locket that was given to her by her family and made three necklaces, one for each sister. This particular locket was to be given to Sylvanas but apparently was lost before it could be given to her. I could say a lot more but that really should be another post.
There is a statue of Alleria as you enter Stormwind City. The inscription reads:
Ranger Captain Alleria Windrunner: Renowned Troll Hunter of Quel’Thalas. Lead Scout and Intelligence Agent for the Alliance Expedition that marched into the orc homeworld of Draenor. Presumed deceased. Your heart flew straight as any arrow upon the wind, sister. You were the brightest of our Order. You were the most beloved of our kin. – Sylvanas Windrunner – Ranger General of Quel’Thalas.
Also, while doing Ghostlands quests, you will be given the task of killing Dar’Khan Drathir in Deatholme, a quest called The Traitor’s Destruction. which if you are Blood Elf, eventually leads you to Orgrimmar and initiates the Blood Elves into the Horde alliance. It’s a good primer for new hordies like me to the values of the Horde.
Ghostlands started out a bit slow but really created a desire to look up some people and places. I quite enjoyed it once I was in the middle of it all.
